ไม้พุ่มหรือไม้ต้นขนาดเล็ก สูง 1–3 เมตร กิ่งก้านแตกออกเป็นพุ่มแน่น ใบเดี่ยวออกตรงข้าม รูปรีหรือรูปไข่ ปลายแหลม ดอกสีขาว มีกลิ่นหอมอ่อน ออกเป็นช่อที่ปลายกิ่ง ลักษณะเด่นคือกลีบดอกบิดเป็นเกลียวคล้ายมาลัย (บางพันธุ์มีดอกซ้อน) ผลเป็นฝักคู่ เมื่อแก่แตกออกเห็นเมล็ดสีส้มแดง พบในอินเดีย เอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ จนถึงฟิลิปปินส์และนิวกินี
A small shrub or small tree, 1–3 m tall, with dense branching. Leaves opposite, elliptic to ovate, with pointed tips. Flowers white, mildly fragrant, borne in terminal clusters. Petals twisted pinwheel-like (some cultivars are double-flowered). Fruits are paired follicles, splitting open when mature to reveal bright orange-red seeds. Native to India, Southeast Asia, the Philippines and New Guinea.
