ไม้ยืนต้นขนาดเล็ก สูง 2–4 เมตร กิ่งก้านแผ่เป็นพุ่มหนาแน่น ใบเดี่ยว เรียงตรงข้าม รูปไข่หรือรูปรี ขอบใบเรียบหรือเป็นคลื่นเล็กน้อย ดอกสีชมพูถึงม่วงอ่อน ออกเป็นช่อเล็กตามซอกใบ ผลสดกลมแป้น สีแดงสดเมื่อสุก เส้นผ่านศูนย์กลาง 1.5–2.5 ซม. เนื้อฉ่ำ รสเปรี้ยวอมหวาน มีถิ่นกำเนิดในเขตร้อนของทวีปอเมริกา (อเมริกากลางและแคริบเบียน) และถูกนำเข้ามาปลูกในเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ รวมถึงประเทศไทย
A small tree, 2–4 m tall, with dense branching. Leaves simple, opposite, ovate to elliptic, with entire or slightly wavy margins. Flowers pink to light purple, borne in small clusters in leaf axils. Fruits are bright red drupes, round and slightly flattened, 1.5–2.5 cm in diameter, juicy with a sweet-sour taste. Native to tropical America (Central America and the Caribbean). Widely cultivated in Southeast Asia, including Thailand.
