ไม้ยืนต้นไม่ผลัดใบ ขนาดกลางถึงใหญ่ สูงได้ถึง 20–25 เมตร เรือนยอดแน่นทึบ ใบเดี่ยวรูปรีหรือรูปไข่กลับ ปลายใบมน แผ่นใบหนาเป็นมัน สีเขียวเข้ม ดอกออกเป็นช่อเล็ก สีขาว มีกลิ่นหอมแรง ผลกลม ขนาดประมาณ 2–4 ซม. เมื่อแก่เปลี่ยนเป็นสีน้ำตาล ภายในมีเมล็ดเดียว พบทั่วไปตามชายฝั่งทะเล ป่าชายหาด และพื้นที่ใกล้น้ำทะเลในเขตร้อนของเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ เช่น ไทย มาเลเซีย อินโดนีเซีย ฟิลิปปินส์ รวมถึงหมู่เกาะในมหาสมุทรแปซิฟิก
An evergreen medium-to-large tree, reaching 20–25 m tall, with a dense, rounded crown. Leaves are opposite, elliptic to obovate, thick, and glossy dark green. Flowers are small, white, strongly fragrant, and borne in clusters. Fruits are spherical, 2–4 cm in diameter, turning brown when ripe, each containing a single seed. Widely distributed along tropical seashores and coastal forests of Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and the Pacific Islands.
