ไม้ยืนต้นขนาดเล็กถึงกลาง สูงประมาณ 3–10 เมตร ใบเดี่ยวรูปรีหรือรูปไข่ ปลายแหลม ขอบใบเรียบหรือเป็นคลื่นเล็กน้อย ดอกสีเหลืองสด ออกเป็นช่อหรือออกเดี่ยวบริเวณปลายกิ่ง มีกลิ่นหอมอ่อน ๆ ผลมีสีเขียวแล้วเปลี่ยนเป็นสีดำเมื่อสุก พบได้ทั่วไปในป่าเบญจพรรณ ป่าเต็งรัง และป่าดิบแล้งในประเทศไทย ลาว และเวียดนาม โดยเฉพาะในพื้นที่ที่มีดินร่วนปนทรายหรือดินค่อนข้างแห้ง
A small to medium-sized deciduous tree, reaching 3–10 m in height. Leaves are simple, oval to elliptic, with entire or slightly wavy margins. Bright yellow, fragrant flowers bloom in clusters at the branch tips. Fruits turn from green to black when ripe. Naturally found in mixed deciduous, dry dipterocarp, and dry evergreen forests of Thailand, Laos and Vietnam, especially in sandy or dry soils.

นิยมปลูกเป็นไม้ประดับโดยเฉพาะช่วงปีใหม่ เนื่องจากเชื่อว่าเป็นไม้มงคล
เปลือกและรากใช้ในสมุนไพรพื้นบ้าน เช่น แก้ไข้ หรือบำรุงร่างกาย
ไม้เนื้อแข็งพอประมาณ ใช้ทำเครื่องมือหรือสิ่งก่อสร้างขนาดเล็กได้
Benefits:
Cultivated as an ornamental plant, especially during the New Year for its symbolic auspiciousness.
Bark and roots are used in traditional medicine for fever relief and general tonic.
Wood is moderately hard, suitable for small construction or household tools.
