เพกา | Indian Trumpet Tree

ไม้ยืนต้นขนาดกลาง สูง 8–15 เมตร ผลัดใบ เปลือกต้นสีน้ำตาลเทา แตกเป็นร่องเล็กน้อย ใบประกอบแบบขนนก 2-3 ชั้น ขนาดใหญ่ ดอกออกเป็นช่อกระจะที่ปลายกิ่ง กลีบดอกสีม่วงน้ำตาลเข้ม กลิ่นหอมแรงตอนกลางคืนเพื่อดึงดูดค้างคาวเป็นตัวผสมเกสร ผลเป็นฝักแบนยาว 30–100 ซม. เมื่อแก่เปลือกแตก เมล็ดแบนมีปีก ช่วยกระจายด้วยลม พบทั่วไปตามป่าดิบแล้ง ป่าเบญจพรรณ และพื้นที่รกร้าง ในประเทศไทย อินเดีย ศรีลังกา จีนตอนใต้ และเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้
Medium-sized deciduous tree, 8–15 m tall. Bark gray-brown, slightly fissured. Leaves are very large, bipinnate or tripinnate. Flowers are borne in terminal racemes, dark purplish-brown, and strongly fragrant at night, pollinated by bats. Fruits are very long, flat pods (30–100 cm) that split open when mature; seeds are flat with papery wings, dispersed by wind. Mostly found in dry evergreen forests, mixed deciduous forests, and abandoned areas in Thailand, India, Sri Lanka, southern China and Southeast Asia.
