ไม้ยืนต้นผลัดใบขนาดกลาง สูงประมาณ 10–20 เมตร เปลือกต้นสีเทาเข้มหรือเทาน้ำตาล แตกเป็นสะเก็ดบาง ๆ ใบเดี่ยวเรียงเวียนหนาแน่นที่ปลายกิ่ง ลักษณะใบรูปไข่กลับหรือรูปรีกว้าง ปลายใบมนหรือเว้าเล็กน้อย ขอบใบหยักไม่สม่ำเสมอ ดอกออกเป็นช่อกระจะที่ปลายกิ่ง ดอกใหญ่สีขาวนวลหรือขาวอมชมพู เกสรจำนวนมาก ผลกลมรี ผิวสีเขียวแล้วเปลี่ยนเป็นเหลืองหรือส้มเมื่อสุก เนื้อภายในฉ่ำน้ำ มีเมล็ดแข็ง พบทั่วไปในป่าเบญจพรรณ ป่าเต็งรัง และป่าดิบแล้งของอินเดีย ศรีลังกา บังคลาเทศ เมียนมา ไทย และลาว มักขึ้นในที่โล่งหรือริมป่า
Medium-sized deciduous tree, 10–20 m tall. Bark gray to brown, flaking in thin scales. Leaves are simple, clustered near branch tips, obovate to broadly elliptic, apex rounded or slightly notched, with irregularly serrated margins. Flowers are borne in terminal racemes, large, whitish to pale pink, with numerous prominent stamens. Fruits are ovoid, turning yellow to orange when ripe, with fleshy pulp and hard seeds. Mostly found in dry deciduous forests, mixed deciduous forests, and dry evergreen forests of South and Southeast Asia, including India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand and Laos, often in open areas or along forest edges.
