ไม้ต้นผลัดใบ ขนาดกลางถึงใหญ่ สูง 10–25 เมตร เรือนยอดกลมพุ่มหนา ลำต้นเปลาตรง เปลือกสีน้ำตาลอมเทา แตกเป็นร่องตามยาว เนื้อไม้สีน้ำตาลอ่อนถึงน้ำตาลแดง ใบประกอบแบบขนนกปลายคู่ เรียงสลับ ปลายแหลม โคนสอบ ดอกช่อออกตามกิ่งหรือปลายกิ่ง ดอกสีม่วงอมน้ำเงินคล้ายดอกถั่ว ออกดอกมากในช่วงกุมภาพันธ์–เมษายน ขึ้นทั่วไปในป่าเบญจพรรณ ป่าดิบแล้ง และป่าโปร่ง ที่ระดับความสูง 100–800 เมตร พบมากในภาคเหนือและอีสานของไทย รวมถึงเมียนมา และลาว
A medium to large deciduous tree at 10–25 m tall with a dense rounded crown and straight bole. Bark is grayish-brown and longitudinally fissured. Wood color is light brown to reddish-brown. Leaves are pinnate. Inflorescences are axillary or terminal panicles. Flowers are papilionaceous, bluish-purple, profusely blooming in February–April. Grows commonly in mixed deciduous, dry evergreen, and open forests at 100–800 m elevation. Widely distributed in northern and northeastern Thailand, also found in Myanmar and Laos.
